Athletics Master Plan Ohio State
HNTB provided master planning services that included the evaluation of existing
facilities, development of planning concepts, and preparation of cost estimates for all
proposed projects. A fundraising animation was also developed that included graphic
tools suitable for donor presentations. The study enabled the university to assess
facility needs and determine required improvements.
We managed complex, interactive design processes that included interactive
workshops and activities within the process to sustain an environment of
consensus-building.
Unique items that were evaluated:
Creation of an athletics village. The concept involved the creation of a center, or heart for athletics — a place that would serve as a gathering area for student athletes, coaches and staff.
Potential demolition and relocation of the indoor field house, basketball arena and ice rink away from the central part of the campus to the athletics campus. This move will free up valuable space for OSU’s academic campus facilities to continue to grow and expand.
Extensive facility analysis for five existing and aging athletic facilities. Analysis included structural, mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP), and architectural evaluations.
Benefits of land acquisition near the athletic campus to complete the athletics village.
