Memorial Coliseum Renovation
HNTB, in association with RossTarrant Architects, completed the renovation of the historic Memorial Coliseum at University of Kentucky. The modernization enhances the facilities for fans and athletes, home of the women’s teams for basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics programs.
The historic character of the exterior remains while the state-of-the-art facility was upgraded to contemporary standards of safety, accessibility, and functionality. Features include a new a new club area offering premium seating options for fans during games and events. The renovation also addressed infrastructure needs, including lighting, sound systems, and utilities.
Originally opened in 1950, the facility served as a memorial to Kentuckians who died in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. Beyond game day, the renovated coliseum will host campus events, guest speakers, seminars, arts performances, and philanthropic activities creating a vibrant hub for both athletic excellence and community engagement.
